How OGI330HM Detects Gas Through Infrared Absorption Signatures

Every gas molecule has a unique infrared absorption fingerprint. Methane, CO₂, CO, VOCs — each absorbs IR radiation at its own characteristic wavelengths in the 3–17 μm band.

The OGI330HM, fabricated on III-V compound semiconductor material, is tuned to watch those exact wavelengths.

When a leak plume drifts through the detector’s field of view, the gas selectively absorbs that infrared energy. The resulting thermal contrast between the plume and the background is rendered by Raytron’s proprietary algorithms as a dynamic visual cloud — showing operators the leak source, dispersion direction, and spread in a single image.

Powered by proprietary high-temperature MWIR core technology, the OGI330HM combines high sensitivity, lightweight construction, extended service life, and low power consumption in a single detector core — equally suited to handheld, airborne, and fixed online gas-imaging platforms.

1. 10 mK sensitivity. Nothing slips through.

NETD ≤ 10 mK — double the sensitivity of standard ≤ 20 mK detectors. When a micro-leak produces a thermal signal so faint that conventional hardware ignores it, the OGI330HM catches it. No gaps. No missed calls.

2. Runs warm, so it can be light and last.

Traditional cooled detectors run at 77 K (−196 °C). The cryogenic system that sustains that temperature is bulky, power-thirsty, and wears out fast.

The OGI330HM operates at 150 K (−123 °C) — a 73-degree shift that dramatically lightens the cooling load. Three outcomes:

  • ≤ 280 g. Drone-ready. Handheld-friendly. Carry it all day.
  • MTTF ≥ 20,000 hours on the cryocooler. Built for continuous industrial duty, not quarterly swap-outs.
  • 4 W steady-state. A battery that lasts a shift. No charger chasing.
